Insp-HER-a-Tion : Meet Andrea Price, A True Creative Soul

by

I met Andrea a few years ago when I was in limbo trying to get to Los Angeles. It was so refreshing to connect with another creative in the midst of everything, her spirit was so soothing. I’ve ALWAYS admired her work and hoping to one day own a piece for my own place. Excited to share with you all, meet, Andrea Price.

When did you first discover your talent as an artist?

I’ve been fascinated with art ever since I could hold a crayon. Drawing/coloring was always my favorite go to play activity since I was a toddler.

What was the first thing you painted that impressed you?

One of my first painting assignments, a portrait of Alicia Keys (el oh el). I had no idea what I was doing but I was impressed that I made my way through it and it didn’t look like her face was melting.

What is your favorite medium to create on?

As of late 2016: Modeling paste, acrylic paint & canvas.

What are 3 must haves during your creative process?

My brushes,

Music

& Light (I love working in spaces with huge windows/big sources of natural light)

What obstacles do you face in your creative process?

At times it’s difficult to know when to stop tweaking, refitting…looking for things to fix… essentially when to be finished in the creative process. There’s a point in every project where I have to stop myself. Also, if I’m struggling with connecting what I see in my head with what’s showing up on the canvas I can become my own worst frienemy. That’s when I’ve learned to step away and go do something completely different or go work on something else. Coming back to things with fresh eyes can end up making everything better in the end.

I noticed that you travel and explore a lot. What has been one of the most inspirational places during your travels and why?

Exploring is a way to keep refilling my inspiration cup. Mexico City is one of the most inspirational places I’ve ever seen.  The city itself is so rich with culture in every aspect.  There’s a lot of visual stimulation there… tons of public art, museums, street artists, different type’s of local artisans, etc.  Plus, one of my all time favorite artists, Frida Kahlo’s house is a museum in the city. Walking through that house and seeing all of the original’s from such a legendary artist was for sure one of my life’s highlights and incredibly inspiring.

Bonus* You are such an insp-her-ation! What can we expect to see from you in the year? ( I’m secretly hoping an art show because I will fly out to support lol )

You know, I’ve never had a art show! That’s a dream of mine. Now that I’ve rekindled my love affair with painting through doing these textured pieces, I can’t wait to get new work out! I’m working on a few commissions right now for a collector as well as working on some new pieces so that I can have a show.  Having an exhibition is a prime goal for 2017 and you will be the first to know when I do! Lol.   I’ve also got some products I’ve designed for others that will be coming out in early 2017. I’m excited to share those with everyone.

Connect with Andrea and keep up with her work!
